Our Story

From Muddy Paws to a Cleaner Planet

It started over a year ago with a simple act of kindness. Founders Tyrone Allan and Kyra Kennett began volunteering their weekends to a local NPO in Kleinmond, dedicated to feeding and caring for dogs in the area’s informal settlement.

Surrounded by these incredible animals, we realized they needed more than just food, they needed a safe place to rest. We embarked on a project to build dog beds using discarded road tyres.

The Spark: What began as a charity project quickly developed into something more. When friends, family, and neighbors saw the tyre beds, the response was very positive. It became evident that we hadn’t just solved a problem for stray dogs; we had stumbled upon something that could bring joy to all dogs. The beds were virtually indestructible, orthopedically supportive, and looked surprisingly good as a dog bed

The Craft: Treads2Tails is still in its infancy, but our standards are fully grown. We don’t just pick up a tyre and throw a cushion in it. Each Treads2Tails frame represents a labor of love, requiring 4 to 6 hours of intense manual preparation.

We painstakingly scrub and deep–clean every inch of rubber, ensuring that all harsh road chemicals and residues are completely removed. We transform a piece of industrial waste into a safe, hygienic, and pristine piece of furniture that is ready for your home and safe for your animal.

The Mission: The Founder’s Edition We are currently working hard to get this initiative off the ground. To do that, we have launched the exclusive Founder’s Edition, strictly limited to 50 units.

These first 50 beds are the “seeds that will grow this forest”. The proceeds from these sales are strictly dedicated to acquiring the tools and materials we need to move from a backyard project into something more sustainable.

The Future Vision: Our ultimate dream is to complete the circle. Right now, every cent goes into building the business and lowering our manufacturing costs. But the goal of Treads2Tails has always been to give back to the community that started it all.

We are building this company so that, once we are established and sustainable, we can commit a portion of our proceeds back to the NPOs in Kleinmond. We want to reach a point where our success directly empowers the selfless heroes who care for the dogs that have no one else.
